Pacific Coast Highway

This is the sign you will see on State Highway 1 at Manurewa, and is the start of the Pacific Coast Highway, which begins in Manukau, a vibrant city with a great blend of city and rural spaces encompassing forests, lakes, waterfalls, gently rolling farmland and 300 kilometers of picturesque coastline. Start your journey learning about Auckland's fascinating cultural and natural heritage.  The historic Mangere Mountain and Otuataua Stonefields Historic Reserve, are places where you can see large-scale remains of how people once lived and worked in the volcanic areas of Auckland.

Once on the Highway, you will see roadsigns with the Pacific Coast Highway logo (right) - this will appear regularly on the 820 km route which takes you past Maraetai and Clevedon (click for map), through Miranda to the Coromandels, and then round the eastern coastline, past Tauranga and Whakatane, Gisborne, and on to Napier.
