Bishop Selwyn & Otara (Chief) Te Irirangi

Tara Te Irirangi was a prominent chief of Ngai Tai in the mid 19th Century, who lived at Umupuia (Duder's Beach).  Otara and Te Irirangi Drive are named after him.

Bishop Selwyn arrived in 1842 as Bishop of the Anglican Church in New Zealand.  He was responsible for the establishment of new church buildings throughout New Zealand, including All Saints, Howick
