Gateway Heritage – Full Day
Begin your day at Mangere Bridge Village at one of the small cafés then head up Coronation Road to the Mangere Mountain Education Centre. Quite often there will be a school group learning about the mountain and the cultural heritage of the area – but it’s likely that you can sit in on the lesson!
Take a walk up Mangere Mountain – there’s both a short rout up and a longer route, but, either way, you get spectacular views of the area, the coastline and Auckland City. Looking out over the vista you understand you understand why the Mountain was such a strategic stronghold for early Maori.
Head for Villa Maria Winery and Vineyard Park for lunch. Enjoy one of the selection platters, sitting outside overlooking the beautiful vineyard and lake. Take an afternoon tour of the vineyard at 3pm and observe the state of the art winemaking process – then maybe a tasting of some of Villa Maria’s award-winning wines. And you’re sure to bring away a bottle, or two! |
