Howick – Full Day
Howick is a great place to start your day at one of the many pavement cafés. Take a stroll up and down Picton Street and browse the shops – you’ll be sure to be tempted!
At the eastern end of Picton Street stands New Zealand’s second oldest church, All Saints. Built in 1847, it stands in an historic churchyard, complete with lych gate.
Stroll down to Howick Beach, where, at low tide, the stumps of the old wharf (demolished 1936) can be seen, and sit awhile.
Take a drive up to Musick Point, passing through the Howick Golf Club, and you will be rewarded with spectacular views of the Hauraki Gulf and out to the Islands. If you are more energetic, you can park either at Bucklands or Eastern Beach and then walk up to the Point (there is also a bus service to these beaches – further information from Howick Information Service).
Catch a late lunch or afternoon tea at the Homestead Café at the Howick Historical Village (5 minutes drive from Howick village). Howick Historical Village is a great place to learn about the early settler period of Howick’s history.
